From Silos to Unified Insights in four months

S5 Consulting partnered with a global engineering leader to design and implement a robust, scalable enterprise data platform using SAP and Azure technologies. The solution replaced disconnected data exports with automated, governed pipelines and real-time reporting—empowering teams with consistent, self-service insights and operational transparency.
The project was aimed to deliver a flexible analytics platform that supports evolving business needs, enabling reliable data ingestion, transformation, modeling, and reporting—while ensuring consistency, scalability, and reduced manual effort.
The need
The organization faced several challenges related to data integration and operational visibility. Data was fragmented across multiple systems, including SAP, MyProject, and COMOS, making it difficult to gain a comprehensive view. Real-time visibility into asset status and project workflows was limited, and overnight data refresh cycles delayed issue detection. Additionally, there was no proactive alerting or monitoring in place to identify data pipeline failures, increasing the risk of unnoticed disruptions.
Our solution
A modular Azure-based architecture was established to support scalable and efficient data operations. The solution defined clear zones for raw, curated, and reporting data, and was built using a toolset comprising Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory (ADF), SAP Data Intelligence, and Azure Data Lake. SAP data pipelines were implemented to enable incremental extraction from CDS Views using SAP Data Intelligence, achieving sub-15-minute refresh cycles into the Azure Data Lake. To consolidate engineering data, MyProject and COMOS sources were integrated into the unified data model using Azure Data Factory. Smart monitoring capabilities were incorporated through Azure Monitor and Log Analytics, providing real-time alerts and visibility into pipeline health. On top of the curated data layer, a dimensional model was developed in Synapse, powering Power BI dashboards that deliver insights into cost tracking, scheduling, and asset performance.
